The vice president of the state agency Telam Argentina, Sergio Fernández Novoa, today was appointed president of the World Council of News Agencies.
The Council resolution was announced at the end of the III World Congress which took place in the city of Bariloche Argentina and was attended by nearly 170
Representatives from more than 70 agencies from five continents. Fernández Novoa, who chaired the organizing committee of the meeting, welcomed the appointment and urged participants to "dare to try to find the paths that lead to our agencies not only still active, but they can grow more and better."
The III World Congress was officially opened in Buenos Aires on Tuesday by President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, and then moved to Bariloche. The event concluded with an address by the Chief of Cabinet of Ministers of Argentina, Aníbal Fernández. Telam Vice President pointed out the commitments it would "continue working on the rights of the author, one of the issues under review in Congress.
"The World Council is strengthened by all we could hear and that is knowledge, concepts that will also be adopted by our businesses," said Fernandez Novoa.
The official singled out the issues in debate during the three days on the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi, "We talked about new technologies, how to combat piracy, talk about the demands and needs of our customers and we had different views about it."
The flamboyant head of the World Council of News Agencies identified four issues highlighted in the concern of the participants.
"We intend to further promote the format of training, research, training and, likewise, enhance relations of cooperation and reciprocity among the agencies," said Fernandez Novoa.
The next world congress of news agencies will be held in 2013 in Saudi Sudit, Télam task which will be responsible for assisting in its organization and development. The first congress was held in Moscow in 2004, the second in Spain and one in Argentina.
Fernández Novoa told reporters the agency colleagues in other parts of the world, nine agencies in the region made official the signing of the letter of intent for the creation of the Latin American Union of News Agencies (ULAN).
